- The Old Harbour Museum is situated on the coast, in the heart of Hermanus and the town originally developed around this (harbour) area, from around the middle of the nineteenth century when plentiful fish and fresh water were found in the area.
- The Fishermen’s Village is situated above the old harbour across Market Square
- There are many restaurants, tourist shops, take a ways as well as some hotels, bed and breakfasts, a clean tidal pool and rock angling available in close proximity.
- Hermanus is known to be the heart of the Whale Route and the museum has one of the best close up whale watching spots in town.
- Hermanus is known as the heart of the perlemoen area and the museum has a perlemoen restaurant on its premises.
- The South African Shark Conservancy is located in the Old Harbour.
- For the adventurer, Walkerbay Adventures offers kayak trips between the old and new harbour when weather permits.
